What Foods Pair Well With White Wine?

Have you been asking yourself, “where is the best wine restaurant near me”? As springtime approaches, white wine food pairing takes center stage because of its light and crisp taste. There are many dishes that are complementary to white wine by providing a great balance of refreshing flavors to your palette. Our exclusive selection of wines coupled with our robust and modern menu of Italian favorites is one-of-a-kind in south Miami. You won’t have to go far to find great white wine food pairings with a modern twist.

Why We Love White Wine

From one foodie to another, white wine goes well with just about anything! There are so many varieties of white wine, you can’t drink just one. The most popular white wine is Chardonnay and it’s made from the green grapes we all love. You won’t find these grapes at the supermarket so no use in trying to make it yourself. While this may be disappointing, you may be happy to know that this variety of grape originated in Eastern France’s Burgundy region.

It now forms the base of many sparkling white wines from Italy. For clarification, all champagne is considered sparkling wine but not all sparkling wines are considered champagne. You’ll find the best sparkling white wines from the Lombardia and Friuli regions. These are great for special occasions, although we recommend to enjoy them whenever you’d like.

What Food Goes with White Wine

White wine pairing is serious business. For this reason, we wanted to share our recommendations for what pairs best with white wine. An easy way to think about wine pairing is to remember that light wines go well with light dishes and heavy wines fair well with heavier dishes. The less complicated the dish is, the lighter the wine should be. This may seem like an oversimplification but it makes it easier when you have as large a selection of wines as we do. Here are a few tips for white wine pairings that you love:

  • Shellfish – What can be better than drinking a dry sparkling wine with a plate full of lobster, crab, and shrimp? The acidity of champagne or prosecco works well with a baked or grilled lobster dinner. Sparkling white wines are versatile and work well with high-fat content recipes. Also referred to as the holy trinity of seafood, this combination is great with a dry sauvignon blanc or riesling. Since riesling can be on the sweeter side, it complements the savory and ocean flavors of shellfish, like our Chilli Mussels from our lunch menu.
  • Poultry – This is the easiest of all white wine pairings. The same wines used with shellfish are perfect with poultry. A Trimbach Riesling with a roasted turkey or chicken dish may not be the first white wine pairing that comes to mind but it is a delicious one! Try a glass of riesling or sauvignon blanc with our Grazing Board or our Chicken Parm Sandwich.
  • Salads and appetizers – The lighter the dish, the lighter the wine, and white wine is perfect for salads and appetizers. Any white wine your heart desires will pair well with lighter dishes. Our happy hour menu features a few tasty appetizers you’ll want to pair with a pinot grigio. Some of the favorites include Margherita Flatbread, Spicy Pepperoni Flatbread, and the Whipped Ricotta Toast. If it’s salads you’re looking for, you’ll want to check out our selection that includes our Grilled Caesar Salad, Burrata Caprese, and Petite Local Greens.
  • Fish – When fish is grilled, fried, sauteed, or baked, it is best with white wine! Remember, white wine-food pairing is all about personal preference so don’t be afraid to experiment with different types of wines that range from dry to sweet and everything in between. You’ll want to branch out and try a glass of Viognier with our Fritto Misto made with crispy calamari, zucchini, mushrooms, and a spicy aioli sauce from the lunch menu. If you want to stick to the basics, crispy calamari is great with a bottle of Chardonnay from the Piedmont region in Italy.
  • Cheese – Anytime is a good time for wine and cheese! Milder cheeses work well with white wines while stronger and robust cheeses are best with red wines. Our Grazing Board with local and imported cheeses, prosciutto, honey, olives, Marcona almonds, Gigante butter beans, pickled vegetables, pesto, and grilled bread is the perfect pairing with a crisp Moscato or Chenin blanc. These wines also work with our Caprese Burrata with heirloom tomatoes, local burrata, mint pistachio pesto, balsamic glaze, olive oil, and salt.
  • Potato chips – Yes, you read that right! Potato chips are delicious with champagne or a dry sparkling white wine. The high acidity of sparkling wine combined with the saltiness of chips is a match made in foodie heaven. When you are looking for a unique approach to throwing a party, put out a bowl of potato chips and serve champagne. Your guests will love it!
